As a child, Dr. Michelle Detweiler had a series of foot problems and was assisted by the help of a podiatrist in Philadelphia. These visits to the podiatrist sparked her interest in the field and led her to eventually apply to podiatry school. She has now been practicing as a podiatrist in the Miami Beach area for more than 20 years.
“Podiatry appeals to me because you are often able to make patients feel better on their first visit,” Dr. Detweiler says.
Dr. Detweiler graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia and then headed south to Miami to attend Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine. Once she graduated, Dr. Detweiler did a podiatric surgical residency in Allentown, Pennsylvania and then returned to Miami to start practicing.
Dr. Detweiler is a board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and often treats children with foot problems, as well as cases that involve sports injuries. She is also a medical consultant with the Miami City Ballet.
Outside of the office, Dr. Detweiler is very active with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, which arranges continuing education opportunities for podiatrists across the country. In addition, Dr. Detweiler has also been named Surgeon of the Year at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Her Hobbier include boating and cooking.
