Dr. Michael D. Paula grew up in Miami, Florida and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. He later attended the New York College of Podiatric Medicine where he served as the Class President and received multiple awards and scholarships. After completing his medical education in Manhattan, Dr. Paula returned to his hometown of Miami for residency training at Jackson South Medical Center, a division of Jackson Memorial Health System. He completed over 1,000 surgical procedures during his 3 year residency and eventually went on to become the Chief Resident.
Dr. Paula has experience in all surgical and non-surgical aspects of podiatric medicine. This includes acute and chronic lower extremity pathologies such as bunion and hammertoe deformities, heel pain, nail disorders, joint replacements, tendon injuries, fractures, sports injuries, and pediatric conditions. He has undergone immense training in both forefoot and rearfoot elective and reconstructive surgery. Additionally, his training at Jackson South Medical Center, a level 2 trauma center, has afforded Dr. Paula a high volume of foot and ankle trauma surgery. Dr. Paula also has a great deal of experience in wound care, with extensive training in treating various diabetic, traumatic and vascular related wounds.
Currently Dr. Paula has joined Florida Foot & Ankle Associates and is in private practice located in the UHealth tower at the University of Miami Hospital. He is a patient-oriented individual offering exceptional communication and diagnostic skills. He speaks both English and Spanish. Dr. Paula is Board-Qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons in foot and rearfoot/ankle reconstruction. He has multiple research publications and enjoys staying up to date on the latest advancements in podiatric medicine. Whether it be nonsurgical-conservative care or surgical intervention Dr. Paula is committed to providing his patients with a personalized treatment plan to fit their needs.
