Dr. Jerald Carmel grew up in Miami Beach and has practiced in the area for more than 35 years. His new offices are located on the top floor of Mount Sinai’s Simon Medical Staff Office Building, where Dr. Carmel specializes in sports medicine, diabetic wound care and limb salvage, as well as using advanced technology, such as continuous pulse lasers to reduce inflammation and chronic pain in his patients’ feet and legs.
Carmel got interested in podiatry as a child when he noticed that his mother often suffered from foot pain and he wanted to help her in some way. Therefore, once he graduated from the University of Miami, Carmel went on to study at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland. He graduated in 1973 with his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine, and went on to do a one-year residency in Dallas, Texas where he practiced for a few years before returning to Miami.
Carmel started his Miami Beach practice in 1976 and is known for having a compassionate bond with his patients. In addition to treating patients, Carmel is also training the next generation of podiatrists. As an Adjunct professor at Barry University, Carmel has two podiatry students working in his office every semester.
